Cavendish Set To Turn Rivals Green With Envy

While the fight for the GC and KoM titles seems fairly open in 2008, the green jersey seems destined only for one mans shoulders. After breaking his grand tour duck in the Giro, Mark Cavendish should prove too hot for his rivals over the 3 weeks of the tour, especially given Tom Boonen's absence. I would say perhaps with the exception of Robbie McEwen he is easily the fastest man in the peleton.

Cavendish's biggest problem may be getting over the high mountain passes. If he fails to do so the more consistent but less powerful Thor Hushovd may be able to survive to carry the jersey to Paris. Of course Robbie will have his usual shot at the sprinters title but in the absence of any supporting cast maintaining a lead in the points competition will be tough. Quick Step will still have a dominant lead out train, and without Boonen Gert Steegmans will be their main man. He may pick up the odd stage win but a shot at the overall sprinters title is most probably beyond him.

Points Competition - Mark Cavendish
Outsider - Romain Feillu
