After one of the GC favourites was victorious on Day 1, it was the turn over the Green Jersey favourite to take the spoils on Stage 2 as Norway's Thor Hushovd stormed to victory on the stage from Auray-Saint Brieuc. Hushovd was able to hold off the fast finish of Kim Kirchen (to early yesterday, to late today!), with fellow sprint Team Colombia rider Gerald Ciolek third. Aussie hopeful Robbie McKewen was no where to be seen, and finished 17th, after experiencing technical difficulties earleir in the stage.
Race leader, Alejandro Valverde finished in the main bunch and maintained his one second lead over the rest of the field to hold the maillot jaune. None of the favourites lost time, except for Mauricio Soler, who struggled with his wrist injury to finish in last some seven minutes behind the winner. He is now dead last in the GC, over 10 minutes behind Valverde and has lost all hope of taking the title. Kirchen's second was enough to garner him the lead in the points compeition after he finished fourth on Day 1. Thomas Voeckler increased his lead in the KoM competition after managing to slip into the day's unsuccessful breakaway again, this time with Sylvain Chavanel (more classic tactical riding from the French!). Riccardo Ricco finished in the main bunch to hold on to his White Jersey for best young rider.
